Artemis Fowl II: The Arctic Incident, otherwise known as The Arctic Indicent or Artemis Fowl II is a Yr21 film directed by Danish Director Michael Belsø. It starred William McArthur in the lead role.

Plot

The movie starts out in Tatooine when Artemis Fowl starts noticing some strange monsters coming out of the ground. Fowl easily defeats them, but Qui-Gon Jinn is worried that something might happen in the near future. When Fowl and company hears that the planet is suffering from a deep freeze, they initially take no notice, but when Fowl kills off another monster, they find out it is a monster not normally seen outside the Oasis Jungle. But due to the falling temperatures, the monsters are arising from the Oasis Jungle, and that they have started to go into the towns and cities - where such monsters would normally never survive, but are now beginning to thrive in the now calmer atmosphere.

The citizens are at first happy that the climate is cooler, and are completely oblivious that the monsters are existing among the citizens. Artemis gets suspicious that the people are brainwashed, but upon investigation, he finds out instead that the cooler climate will eventually wreak havoc on the planet's natural cycle, having plants and animals take over the cities, and eventually kill off all the life on the planet. Jinn then finds "cold signals" coming from the secret base they thought they destroyed in the previous film, and find out they never destroyed the base at all, and find out there is another leader who is trying to take over the galaxy - Count Dooku. His plans are to make Tatooine more habitable, making the "Tatooine Caves" reachable without death so that they can obtain the rich natural resources in the caves.

Fowl, knowing the consequences of the Dooku's plans, goes out to stop him. The cool signals are found with three fingerprint locks. He finds the first person (a scientist), knows Dooku is the second, and finds out that a third is "someone with a cunning plan that's way thought out more than his." Artemis decides to find him later and get the second fingerprint lock breaked - and defeats Dooku after a long battle. Shortly after unlocking the second fingerprint lock, an alarm sounds off, causing the main leader to reveal himself, that being Darth Sidious. After revealing to himself that he is the third fingerprint key, he suddenly starts off a timer to speed up the cold signals to the planet and flies off.

Artemis, meanwhile, tries to break the lock, but cannot do so - and has to run to the main engine and destroy it to stop the cold signals. He does so in the dying seconds, saving Tatooine and the people. Artemis returns to Mos Eisley to the cheers of the people, but not before the monsters return to attack, but Artemis defeats them all. He is appointed "deputy chief" of the town, and the narrator goes on to say (the only time a narrator was needed in the movie) that the animals eventually died off and Fowl was awarded "many valours" for his efforts.

Reception

In North America the film instantly rose to #1 on the charts for three weeks, citing the fact that the film was part of a series. It grossed $60 million in North America and $150 million worldwide, earning more than the first film.

Critical reception, though was mixed - many took fault to the lackluster character development, especially with Count Dooku, with Belsø, the director saying that he had wasted potential on Dooku, but has no regrets on making the film, saying he was pleased with the film. Critics also took criticism to the score, with the music being basically the same as the first film. The film was not awarded for any major awards. The film has a 66% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
