Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception, also known as Artemis Fowl IV, was a Yr26 film starring William McArthur in his last film role, and Brett Lawrence in his first major role.

Plot

It is fifteen years after the events from the Eternity Code, and Artemis is enjoying his life as a retired deputy chief, with no plans to do anything else different. He then receives word that his old friend, Obi-Wan Kenobi, who recently retired from his job driving cruise ships. Kenobi decides to live in Tatooine for the rest of his life, and that he has a new padawan that he thought Artemis would teach - the powerful yet erratic Owen Lars.

Owen is very strong with the force, but he has not learned the full extent of his powers and cannot control his impulses to obtain power. Artemis tries to teach Owen the values of being patient and thinking decisions through before taking action. Owen learns this the hard way when he hears shots coming from the alley firing at him, and thinking it was a criminal, he attacks at the shooter, only for it to be Kenobi. Although the police clear Owen from any wrong doing (Kenobi was unaware that he was shooting at Owen), but Artemis thinks that Owen is up to something no good.

In between training sessions, a podrace is held at Tatooine, much like it has been every year since the events at the first movie. Owen, having bet on the event (something which Artemis considers to be against the values of the Jedi), sees his favourite fall behind very quickly. He uses the force to make one of the leading pilots crash his podracer, inadvertently causing a chain reaction which causes extensive damage across the whole track, and to everyone else's podracers.

The race is called off, and Owen is in considerable grief, and in debt. Artemis, with the recent events and Owen being unable to accept his mistakes, kicks him out of his flat. Artemis returns with Anakin (who is running an unsuccessful spare parts business) and tries to rebuild Kenobi's old cruiser to return back to Naboo. However, Owen ventures off to the Oasis Jungle, where the Sith is operating, recovering from hard time and at a lull. Darth Sidious encounters Owen and convinces him that Artemis is holding him back, and Owen agrees to become Sidious' padawan.

Weeks later, Artemis and Anakin are working on the aforementioned cruiser when thugs come in and kidnap Anakin away, claiming that he "knows too much to be working on pieces of junk." Artemis chases after the kidnappers when he sees the ship that they go into speed off into the distance. Anakin is never seen again. Artemis notices that the kidnappers worked with the Sith, and goes into the Oasis Jungle on a land rover to investigate, suspecting the revival of the Sith. Sure enough, when he arrives, he is taken in for "questioning." Artemis figures out very quickly when they ask him about Owen and if he "held back the force" that he found out that Owen had turned to the Dark Side.

Artemis escapes, but he finds Owen and Sidious together, with Owen threatening to attack Artemis to "protect the galaxy." Artemis is forced to defend himself, saying "I will do what I must." A long fight ensues with Artemis and Owen, with Artemis leaving Owen in peril alongside the vertical tunnel. Artemis claims that Owen was "the chosen one," and that he was "supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them." He leaves Owen behind, where he falls down the tunnel and goes into a chute, leading him to the doctors which mend him up into a robotic cyborg.

Artemis, returning back to his former home in Mos Eisley, he makes one more transmission to Master Ben. He tells him about Owen and Obi-Wan, but Ben says that he shouldn't worry about him, and he should only worry about restoring the force to the world. Artemis leaves Mos Eisley broken, miserable, but defiant that he will bring justice to Tatooine.
