2019 Fourside Eagles FC season
The 2019 Fourside Eagles FC season is the tenth in the Fourside Eagles FC's history. It is the fourth season under the management of Robin Fraser.
Season Synopsis
The season started in the CONCACAF Champions League, as Fourside thumped Toronto 4-0 in the first leg of the Round of 16, despite new transfer Jon Bautista being sent off during his debut with the team. Fourside then had a bit of a scheduling quirk in the first two games of the regular season, facing Toronto again after the Champions League. Fourside drew the second leg of the tie, then lost in the regular season. Fourside faced Sporting Kansas City in the Quarterfinals, only to face against them in the MLS Regular Season yet again. The results were similar - a win in the first leg, a loss in the regular season, and a draw in the second leg. Mercifully, a small break occurred in the Champions League, allowing Fourside to catch up in the regular season, winning both against Atlanta (thanks to a last-minute goal from Derlis Gonzalez), Columbus, and Philadelphia. The Eagles then lost to Monterrey in the Champions League, before winning against FC Dallas in the MLS. Fourside then lost the second leg of the Champions League to eventual winners Monterrey, losing the two-legged series 7-2.
From there, Fourside lost to LA Galaxy, and then the Eagles went on a ten game undefeated streak in the MLS Regular Season, vaulting them to the top of the standings in the Eastern Conference, winning 7 out of 10 times along the way. Afterwards, the Eagles won their seventh straight Micronesian Championship, defeating North York United in the final thanks to a goal from Michael Donovan in the final minutes of the game. Their undefeated streak ended at 11 games due to a loss to NYCFC, but they got back to their winning ways, taking both games of a home-and-home series against Orlando, with a last minute goal from Lamar Neagle providing the winner in the second game. Despite a 4-0 loss to Real Salt Lake, a win against Chicago would put them tied on top of the Supporters' Shield standings with Los Angeles FC, and nine points clear of second place in the Eastern Conference.
After a loss to Montreal, Fourside resumed their winning ways with an emphatic win against DC United, helped by a hattrick from Jon Bautista. Following that was a win against Houston, a draw against Chicago, and another win against DC United, with that win sealing Fourside's place in the MLS Cup Playoffs for the eighth year in a row. Fourside then defeated Atlanta 3-1 in convincing fashion, with goals from Gonzalez, Accam and a career first from Cameron Reid aiding them in the win. After the international break, Fourside had a spirited draw against LAFC, which proved their capability against the top teams in the MLS, but put a dent in their Supporters' Shield hopes. After a close loss to the Red Bulls, the Eagles had a controversial victory in San Jose when a penalty was reversed by VAR, drawing the ire of the San Jose fans. Fourside took a stunning loss against Columbus, leaving the final game against New York City FC as a decider for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Despite a hard fought battle as Fourside took many shots on goal, the Eagles lost 2-1, their third loss in four games as they limped towards the finish of the season, dropping them to second in the Eastern Conference. They defeated New England in the first round of the playoffs, but lost to Atlanta in the Conference Semifinals, in a game marred by questionable officiating, as the fans booed the referees off the pitch.
